A lens is a free web page you can easily make
yourself... and you can even "point" a real
www.com domain name to your Squidoo lens through
GoDaddy, so it looks like a real website.
You can even earn money
through the ads Squidoo places on your lenses.
These ads are what allow the site to be free -
and you get to partake in the bounty. A WIN-WIN
all around.
To get started with Squidoo, I
recommend you visit this lens on "How
to Make Your First (or Second) Squidoo Lens."
If you'd like to use Squidoo
as your main online presence... or if you want a
URL that doesn't include "squidoo" in it, you
can register your domain name at GoDaddy and
then "point" it to your lens.
HOW TO "POINT" A DOMAIN NAME TO YOUR LENS
Register Your Domain Name
with GoDaddy
GoDaddy makes it very easy to
"point" a real www.com domain name to
your Squidoo lens. For around $10 a year to reserve a
domain name, it's a bargain.
Here's how you do it:
In GoDaddy, log in to your account with your
user ID and password, click on "Domains" in the
green bar, then on "Manage Domains."
Click on the domain name you wish to point
(forward) to your lens and then click on
"Forwarding."
Check "Enabled" and "Moved Permanently" (you can
unforward later, if needed).
Then type your
entire Squidoo address in the "Forward To" box
(including the http://). It will be http://www.squidoo.com/(insert
your lens name). Click "Okay" and you're
done!
** By the way, you
can point a domain name to any blog the same
way... or to another website (for example, a
replicated network marketing site)... or to a
particular page on your existing website).
CREATE AN
EMAIL ACCOUNT FOR
YOUR DOMAIN
Log in to your GoDaddy account
with your user ID and password. Click on "My
Account," then on "Email Account."
Where you see "Free Email with
Domain," click on "Use Credit."
Highlight (click) the domain name
you want to activate for your email address.
Click the "Continue" button. It'll now show as a
"New Account."
Click on "Manage Account." The
Email Control Center opens in a new window.
Where you see "Free email addresses for
mynewdomain.com, click the "ADD" button.
Enter the prefix you want in the
box (could be your name, sales, info, etc. -
however you want this email address to read:
myname@mynewdomain.com, or info@mynewdomain.com).
Enter your
password twice. (Don't forget to write your
password where you'll readily find it... or use
one that's easily remembered... you'll need it
to access your mailbox.)
Keep the defaults
for the other questions (i.e., don't enter
anything else). Hit the "OK" button.
To access your mailbox, on the
Email Control Center page, for the email address
you just set up, click on the "Envelope" icon.
This launches your webmail box.
Bookmark it to find it easily in
the future. When you click on your bookmark,
you'll be asked for the email address and
password. Enter them both and hit "Login."
